Discovery Cruise Line, a port tenant for over 20 years, is not only a typical Day Cruise operation, but also an essential daily link between South Florida and Grand Bahama Island, carrying Island visitors, ‘day cruisers’, cargo and Bahamian residents for shopping sprees in Broward County. Discovery brings annually close to 50,000 such Bahamian shoppers to Broward County – shoppers who take advantage of the unique service Discovery provides, namely to take their purchases home with them and personally declare them through Bahamas Customs, thus taking advantage of their yearly duty free allowances. In addition of the considerable amount of monies spent in Broward County by Discovery cruise passengers and by the vessel operation itself, those Bahamian shoppers are spending a conservatively estimated $100 million in total purchasing dollars per annum in Broward County.
